Edible Landscape
Ran across this article on The Oil Drum today that summarizes how to get started with setting up an edible landscape. This is something I keep talking about doing so running across articles like this helps move me in the right direction.
Examples of farming on city and suburban streets
I love the idea of people pulling out lawns and farming that perfectly good ground. I just ran across this great blog focused onĀ people farming their front yards. Greenwalks
Vast Paver – A paver made from 75-95% trash
The Vast Paver is totally cool. A paver made from 75-95% recycled scrap tire rubber and plastics. Not sure how much it costs but definitely something to consider for a future patio. Saw it on Jetson Green.
Grey Water System and Free Plans
I spotted this on materialicious just now. It’s a simple grey water system for taking laundry water and using it on your yard. They have also included a detailed drawing that shows exactly how to set this type of system up. Laundry to Landscape Grey Water System
Rain Gutters for Vertical Gardening
Julia and I have been considering building a vertical garden with rain gutters. I spotted these rain gutter links on materialicious this morning.
I’ll try scavenging first and shopping locally second… but it’s nice to fine some cool options online too.
Square Foot Gardening
Rediscovering square foot gardening. I remember my dad reading this when I was a kid. Looks like it has gone through a great refresh and they offer lots of free info online.
Small Space Potato Growing Box
Just spotted this on RowdyKittens, Growing Potatoes in Small Spaces. Looks like the perfect little thing to build out of pallets.
Seed Exchange and Supplier
I spotted this on thistinyhouse. It’s their favorite seed company, called Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, who’s mission is to help preserve rare and endangered plant species. The sell heirloom and organic seeds. Seems like the right kind of business to support to me.
Hand Made Garden Tools
Very cool hand made garden tools by a Palo Alto craftsman Rob Simpson. Combination wood worker and blacksmith. Wish the fellow had a website/blog of his own. He’d also do very well on etsy.com.
Side note: I did the Palo Alto Farmers’ Market a couple times years ago when I made pottery. Great Farmers’ Market as I remember it. Very affulent area, silicon valley, Stamford, etc.
