How America Got Fat

This is an excellent article on how America in general got so fat and why we should never eat processed food loaded with salt, fat, and sugar. I also want to point out that there’s no conspiracy here; food manufacturers are simply trying to make us want to eat more and more of their food while reducing their costs. Unfortunately the methods they are using to make themselves more profitable are unethical and extremely dangerous to our health.

Cool site on locally grown food. Seems to cover everything from gardening to cooking, to eating. Also looks like it has a strong online community. Definitely worth a closer look. HOMEGROWN.ORG

I spotted this on thistinyhouse. It’s their favorite seed company, called Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, who’s mission is to help preserve rare and endangered plant species. The sell heirloom and organic seeds. Seems like the right kind of business to support to me.

I’ve found this article on BuildingGreen.com useful for figuring out what type of plywood or OSB to buy for a healthier home. Don’t buy plywood of OSB with PF (Phenol-formaldehyde) biners. Buy exterior grade material with MDI (methyl diisocyanate) biners because they have less of an offgassing concern.

The Mediterranean Diet and Good Health

Julia spotted this interesting article on eating a Mediterranean Diet. Seems that back in the 1950s researches found that a particular group of people in a particular part of the Mediterranean lived longer than most others in the region. Sounds like a good way to eat.
