Reburbia Design Competition – deadline is August 1, 2009
I guess I’m not the only one that suspects that suburbia will be one of the potential victims when peak oil trouble really hits hard. Dwell and Inhabitat have teamed up and are co-hosting a design competition called Reburbia. Designers of all types are invited to submit their solutions for solving this potential future problem. I’ve got my own design ideas in the works; and yes they will include tiny houses. The deadline for entries is August 1, 2009. Reburbia
Examples of farming on city and suburban streets
I love the idea of people pulling out lawns and farming that perfectly good ground. I just ran across this great blog focused onĀ people farming their front yards. Greenwalks
Holy Lamb Organics – Organic Bedding Maker
I spotted this on twitter via @rowdykittens and learned that tiny house folks like Dee Williams sleep on these mattresses. Knowing that we spend so much time sleeping in bed makes me think that the next time we buy bedding we should look at companies like this.
Peddler’s Wagon – I love the underground watering pots they sell
I spotted this on Path to Freedom. I love the underground watering pots they sell. I’ve got to make some of those when I get my pottery studio setup again. They also “tithe” 10% of their profits back to the people and the planet through Dervaes Instituteā¢. The only draw back is that their prices seem a bit on the high side to me, but then again I’m a cheapskate. Peddler’s Wagon
Freedom Seeds – Preserving Open Polinated Seeds
Just came across Freedom Seeds, a seed company focused on preserving open polinated seeds. Spotted it on Path to Freedom. In fact the company was founded by Jules Dervaes & Family, the urban homesteaders in Pasadena. I love the work they are doing and will definitely consider them for my next seed purchase.
Bicycle Tutor – Learn to repair your post peak oil wheels
Just kidding… ok I’m not kidding… and yes I am a nut, thanks for asking… but in all seriousness this is a great website for learning to fix your bike. I learned to do a lot with my bike when I was a kid by taking them apart and putting some of them back together. I first saw this on Early Retirement Extreme. Visit Bicycle Totor
